Open Water Diver

Your first certification: online study, pool training and four ocean dives.

Who it's for

New divers who want to dive independently with a buddy to 18 m / 60 ft.

Before you start

  • Minimum age 10 (junior certification until 15)
  • Swim 200 meters, or 300 meters with mask, fins and snorkel
  • Float or tread water for 10 minutes

How it runs

  1. Online learning

    PADI eLearning or SSI digital learning, at your own pace.

  2. Pool training

    Two sessions in the heated pool, shallow water first.

  3. Ocean dives

    Four dives at Breakwater Cove over one weekend.

Questions

Isn't the water cold here?

It's 52–60°F most of the year, so we supply a 7mm wetsuit, hood and gloves with every course. Learn here and you can dive almost anywhere.

Do I need a medical check?

Everyone completes the diver medical questionnaire before training. Some answers need a doctor's sign-off. Please don't send medical details through this website.

PADI or SSI: which should I choose?

Both are recognized worldwide and the in-water training is nearly identical. PADI e-learning is bought up front; SSI's digital learning is free to start. Pick whichever suits you. We teach both the same way.
